How To Get Ranked On Google Fast

1. Find Targeted Keywords

Keyword research is an essential component of search engine optimization, or SEO. The goal of SEO is to rank a website or content as high as possible in the search engines. Websites that rank well in Google have the best chance of receiving a steady stream of traffic. The more traffic a website has, the more potential for profit.

If you want to make money, it pays to get good at SEO. Become a pro at finding competitive, but not too competitive, keywords. Keywords are simply words or phrases that people are searching for in Google and the other search engines. Keyword research entails finding these targeted keywords.

Did you know that you are unwittingly using keywords every time you type in a word or phrase in Google’s search bar? A keyword research tool’s job is to analyze these keywords. Your job is to find low-competition keywords so that your content has the best chance of getting found.

Producing high-quality and engaging content, along with optimizing the keywords within that content, is the key to ranking well in the search engines. Use keywords strategically to bump up the amount of traffic your website is receiving, and see if your conversions don’t soar. More conversions =  more revenue.

How To Find Keywords

That’s all good and fine you say, but how do I find keywords? This is where a keyword research tool comes in handy. In fact, this tool will prove to be indispensable to the growth of your brand and your business. There are many online keyword tools, it’s just a matter of finding one that best fits your needs.

Here are a few keyword research tools to check out:

  • Google’s Keyword Planner
  • SEMrush
  • SpyFu
  • Jaaxy
  • Uber Suggest
  • Keyword Explorer
  • Answer The Public

My favorite keyword research tool, and the one I use every day is Jaaxy. Check it out here.

Take a look at what Jaaxy’s search dashboard looks like:

Low-Competition Keywords

See where it says “Avg” and “QSR?” Those are the two relevant numbers you want to look at. The number under Avg should ideally be above 50, and the QSR should be under 100. You’ve got yourself a high-converting keyword when those two numbers are within these optimal ranges.

Avg is the number of searches a keyword receives per month, and the QSR shows the number of competing websites that have ranked in Google for that particular keyword. It takes a little time to find quality keywords, but that’s why they call it “research.”

The phrase “best Christmas candy” is a low-competition keyword based on the numbers. It has almost 50 searches, and a QSR under 100. Bingo, that quality keyword needs to be used in a blog post.

I want to provide some perspective for you. Let’s say you write 50 posts every six months, which means you have targeted 50 keywords. Those 50 keywords can potentially turn into 50+ rankings in Google. This clearly illustrates how vital keywords are!

2. Write Engaging Content

By now you can see how important keyword research is to rankings, traffic, and conversions. Content is key, and the location where your keywords will be placed.  For instance, if you’re in the food niche, and want to write a post about Christmas candy, you could use our keyword above, “the best Christmas candy.”

The title of your post could be “The Best Christmas Candy of 2020,” with your keyword being “best Christmas candy.” Now when people search for that particular keyword, they’ll find your article if it’s on the first page of Google. Before I even begin creating content, I optimize my title and subtitles for low-competition keywords.

Doing this critical research is fundamental for creating quality content that is SEO-friendly. After all, Google exists to crawl content, and when I refer to content, this includes not only written articles, but videos and podcasts as well. Content – in all its forms – needs to be keyword-optimized.

Here’s what the sequence looks like: keyword research tool – quality keywords – keyword-rich content – rankings in Google – more traffic to website – more conversions – increased revenue.

The next steps are important, and fortunately don’t take much time.

3. Title And Meta Description

This goes without saying – the title of your post should always include your keyword. That same keyword needs to also be placed within the first paragraph of your article. You’ve now done your job so don’t stress about using your keyword over and over within your post. This is referred to as “keyword stuffing,” and Google doesn’t like it so don’t do it.

Keywords help the search engines understand what your content is about. Once they know this information, you’re more likely to get ranked. Titles are important elements for readers, they let them know the crux of the content. In fact, the title may be the most important SEO ranking metric.

The meta description is also used for SEO purposes. A meta description is a summary of your content, and Google will use it as a snippet in the search results.

Your keyword needs to be included in this description. Think of your meta description as a short sales pitch to potential readers. My title for this post: “How To Get Ranked In Google” is keyword optimized.

4. Use Alt Tags

Images are essential elements to include within your content. Visuals graphics greatly enhance content and help to convey your message. You may not know this, but images can either be SEO-friendly or not. Adding alt tags improves SEO so be sure and include these tags on every single image you use.

A key function of alt tags is to help the visually-impaired who are using screen readers. An alt tag is not technically a tag, but rather a description of the image. It serves two purposes: to aid those who are blind and to enhance SEO. A screen reader will skip over the image if there is no alt tag.

The description of the image should also include your keyword. A strategic way to do this is to include the title of your article followed by a description of the image. Below, you can see I’ve provided a detailed description of the image: “beautiful, multi-colored sunset over the ocean.” Preceding that description, I would include the title of my post, which has my keyword in it.

It only takes a few seconds to add an alt tag, so be sure and do it on every image you use in your content.

5. Add Internal Links

Internal links point to content that resides on your site, and is a key SEO metric. Links that share the same domain would be considered internal links.

I’ve used internal links on this very post, where I’ve invited readers to click on a link to a previous post I’ve written. Internal links can also point to pages on your website.

Keep in mind, internal links need to be relevant to the content. Linking in this way sends a message to Google that you value your own content.

These links will also keep people on your site longer, which will lower your bounce rate, another component of SEO.

Google will crawl your site more efficiently if you include internal links, and your rankings for specific keywords will also improve. Surprisingly, adding internal links is often overlooked, which is unfortunate, because they can improve SEO. Below is an example of an internal link I’ve used in this post. When someone clicks on it, they’ll be directed to another post on my blog.

Below is an example of an internal link. I’ve included many links on this post:

6. Add External Links

An external link is a link that points away from your website. In the example below, I’m linking to Jaaxy:

External links are important for indexing and crawling. Externally linking to trustworthy authority sites will improve the credibility of your website, while boosting SEO.  Remember, the links should to be relevant to your content.

Another purpose of external links, also called outbound links, is connection. If an authority site sees that you’re linking to them, they’ll likely return the favor. This will further add to your credibility and the value of your site’s content. One external link per post will do the trick.

7. Use Google Search Console

The URL feature within Google Search Console, is helpful for determining if the Googlebots can access your website’s posts and pages. You can also test how Google is crawling a URL on your site, and debug potential crawl issues.

I submit every post I write. See the example below:

I also resubmit my sitemap every time I submit a URL.

Click on “Sitemaps” on the left-hand menu of Google Search Console. You’ll be taken to the page below. Now type in “sitemap.xml” and click “Submit.” That’s all there is to submitting a sitemap of your website.

Google now knows to crawl your content. These steps are worth taking  if you’re going to take the time and effort to create content.

8. Leverage Social Media

Now that you’ve created a great blog post, optimized it for SEO by researching your keywords, and added both internal and external links, it’s time to share you content on social media. Social media is a no-brainer in terms of marketing because it’s essentially free advertising, and your article has the potential to reach a huge audience.

Where else can you get your content in front of millions of viewers? A good place to start is by creating business pages for all your social media accounts. If that’s too overwhelming, focus on only one or two platforms to begin with.

I personally love Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest, and use automation tools to automate my pinning and posting. Take advantage of tools like Hootsuite and Tailwind to extend your reach and save valuable time.  Automation tools make it easy to share a lot of content while you sleep.

  1. I have a website but it hasn’t ranked in Google yet. I have been learning about how to get found in Google, but none of the information has been as explanatory as this post. I have heard about Jaaxy, but haven’t tried it yet. I’ll look into it now. It sounds like it’s a very effective tool for keyword research, and after reading your post, I realize just how important this research is.

    Thank you!

  2. Interesting. The more I learn about ranking in Google, the more I find out there is to learn. It’s quite a complicated and sophisticated algorithm they have established for website positioning. I’m glad there are articles out there like this that clearly shows what needs to be done to compete in this competitive field.

SEO is extremely important, and without it, it is virtually impossible to succeed with web-based businesses. Only a fool would disagree. I’m by no means green to SEO, but I am still learning things everyday. So thank you for this informative article. Happy new year to you! Koda

  3. Hi Holly,

Great article. Getting your website found in Google is key if you hope to make a business out of it. For me picking the right keywords is the foundation of success.

I see that you recommend Jaaxy. I’ve used Jaaxy myself a few times and even the free version of the tool is great and I highly recommend it. The fetch as Google isn’t a tool I’m aware of, but I’ll be checking it out.

  4. Getting ranked in Google is so important. Unfortunately, without Google; few people are able to get found due to few popular search engines. SEO is really important because without tagging and adding links, it’s harder to get found.

No SEO, no traffic.  I spent so much time doing this. I’m just thankful that Jaaxy is so helpful.

  5. Thank you for a very informative article. I am in the early stages of learning affiliate marketing so your information was very much appreciated. On the subject of keywords, I would like to emphasize that the keywords we choose should be applicable to our niche.

The website success will depend on the quality of the content, so we should only write posts on subjects we know very well or have researched thoroughly. I learned two new things from you today. I did not know about alt tags.

When we download a photo, do we get a description of it? Fetch as Google is also new to me.

    Thank you!

  6. Hi Holly,

What a lot of great tips for getting ranked high on Google!

I agree with you that “low hanging fruit” keywords are essential – especially in a highly competitive niche.  And, we need to be religious about ensuring that those keywords are included at least once in every post – as well as in the meta title and meta description.

I liked the video by Miles Beckler.  He really brings it home and helps me understand that a more subtle and informative website that concentrates on educating will show more promise for revenue than a website that parrots, “sell…sell…sell…sell” – all over the place!

Miles gives a great example by comparing the 24/7 selling by the Home Shopping Network with the 24/7 informational programs offered by The Food Network!

I am now convinced that I need to make sure that all of my website images have alt tags that are both SEO and visually impaired friendly.

I’m ecstatic to find out the importance of internal and external links.  Those are a couple of other things I need to start checking for.

I’m off to get ranked on Google page 1, now!

    Appreciate all the great info!

    Jim

    • Thanks for your comment Jim. I appreciate you reading my post. Low-hanging keywords are essential for any niche, but especially competitive ones. That’s so true.

Miles Beckler’s video sounds awesome. I’ll have to watch it, and what a great comparison of the Home Shopping Network to the Food Network. I love that and it drives the point home to not oversell, but to inform.

Always add alt tags, along with internal and external links to all your posts. They’re amazing for SEO!
