What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a form on marketing in which a merchant offers a commission to an affiliate for recommending and directing people to their products or services. It’s a win/win situation for all involved because the buyer receives a recommendation from someone they know and trust, while the merchant and affiliate both earn commissions.

This form of marketing doesn’t generate income overnight, rather a lot of time and effort goes on behind the scenes before profits are seen. Like any successful business endeavor, affiliate marketing takes a lot of motivation, commitment, and consistency. However, once the search engines rank your site and weekly content, you’re well on your way to securing your financial future.

1. The Importance Of Having A Blog

A blog is vitally important for affiliate marketing and is a critical component of any successful website. All your valuable content resides on your blog, and your blogs posts are a crucial factor in driving traffic to your site. Not only do your articles provide valuable information for your readers, they also provide a medium in which to place your affiliate links.

As an example, let’s say you have a health and wellness website, and you write an article on the 10 most essential supplements. Within a 1,000 word article, you might include two or three affiliate links leading to those specific products. Your readers will appreciate your recommendations without having to put in the leg work themselves. If an affiliate link is clicked, and a purchase made, you earn a commission, which adds up over time.

2. Your Content Will Redirect People Back To Your Website

One of the best ways to build relationships, and build trust with your audience is to provide them with free, insightful content on a regular basis. This will keep them coming back for more as they come to know, like, and trust you. Studies have proven that people buy from those they view as trustworthy.

Writing educational posts and articles is an effective form of marketing, ultimately driving people to your website. In fact, it’s called content marketing, and is pivotal for building a reader base, and for eventually converting your website visitors into paying customers. Nothing can replace content in terms of conversion.

Email marketing is directly related to content marketing because when people sign up to your email list, they’ll automatically receive your weekly content in their inbox. You’ll want to place a subscription form on your site so your visitors will have an opportunity to join your list. Combining content, email, and social media marketing is a recipe for success.

3. A Website Will Help Build Your Brand

How do you build a brand? We’ve all heard the word “brand” in association with businesses and companies, but do you know exactly what one is? A brand is a product, concept, or service that is easily identifiable from other companies’ products and services. Branding is used in marketing strategies, and is an vital aspect of any business, whether that business is a brick and mortar or an online business.

When I think of branding, I associate it with a trademark, such as the tagline used by Coca Cola, “Good til the last drop” or Nike’s logo, which I’m sure you can visualize. A logo, symbol, mark, or name can all represent a company’s brand. Brands can also reflect colors and fonts, and even the way products are packaged.

Having your own website is a great way to showcase your personal brand, to show off your personality and the mission behind your business. Include your tagline and logo on your website, along with your brand colors and fonts, keeping them uniform across all your marketing materials and social media platforms. Eventually people will come to recognize your brand as uniquely yours.

4. Affiliate Links Are Placed Within Your Content On Your Website

Your content is not only important for providing your readers with useful information, it’s also the medium in which you’ll place your affiliate links as used in the example above. Links need to be relevant to the content they’re embedded in. For example, you wouldn’t want to recommend the latest in fishing gear on a website that is centered around home decor.

Your content should always be relevant to your niche, and your affiliate links within your content pertinent to what the article is about. Relevant recommendations will provide your readers with helpful suggestions for products you personally endorse. As your readership grows so will your revenue. If you have 200 blog posts on your website, with affiliate links included within each article, just think of the monetization possibilities.

5. You Need A Website For Google

Optimizing your content for SEO is imperative if you want Google and the other search engines to rank your posts, which will make it easier for people to eventually land on your site, where they can then subscribe to your list and read more of your content.

Writing content is key, but having people find it is the other side of the coin. There are certain strategies you can employ on all of your posts to increase the chances Google will place them high in the search engines. While you want readers to find your articles, you also want them to find your website via those articles, where they can learn more about you and your services.
