InboxDollars Review [Can You Make Money Doing Surveys?]

The internet is a tremendous resource. There’s no shortage of available opportunities. The problem lies in being able to decipher if the program you’re considering is legitimate. Many are quite convincing. The last thing you want to do is throw your hard-earned cash at a program that doesn’t deliver on their promises. In this post, I’ll be reviewing InboxDollars. Is it possible to make money doing surveys?

What Is InboxDollars?

InboxDollars is a rewards club that enables you to earn money by accomplishing everyday tasks, such as sharing your opinion by completing surveys and polls, viewing trending videos, playing games, shopping online, reading emails, and browsing the web. When you cash out your earnings, you’ll have the option to receive cash or gift cards from popular retailers.

Since the company was founded by Darren Cotter in the year 2000, it has given away over 56 million dollars to its members. The program is free to join, and can be accessed either at InboxDollars.com or through the app store. The company has been steadily growing for 19 years, and owns three sister companies, including DailyRewards, InboxPounds, and SendEarnings.

InboxDollars is accredited with the Better Business Bureau, and has been recognized by Inc. 5000 (a list of the fastest-growing companies) for their substantial growth. Interestingly, they also have an A+ rating. A company can be accredited and recognized, but that doesn’t necessarily mean its members are bringing in tons of cash.

In fact, many of the company’s reviews are less than favorable. The potential to make money is different from actually being able to make it in real life. You will earn, however, earn $5.00 if you sign up…

Can You Make Money Doing Surveys And Other Tasks?

Let’s say you sign up to fill out surveys and read emails. For each task you complete, you’ll earn anywhere from 1 to 10 cents. This impressive profit translates to less than a dollar an hour, but that will depend on how many tasks you were able to complete.

Just for fun, let’s assume you completed 6 tasks in an hour, with each one taking about 10 minutes. You could potentially make 60 cents for all your hard work. And the tasks themselves are not exactly intellectually stimulating.

Some surveys, specifically, can take up to 30 minutes to complete, with the earning potential ranging from $0.10-$5.00 for each one. This means if you complete two surveys, you could in theory, be the proud owner of a whopping $10.00 for your trouble.

And that’s if you earn the maximum amount of $5.00 per survey, which is unlikely. It’s much more likely that you’ll only make 50 cents for long surveys, and 25 cents for shorter surveys, which take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

One member stated that she received a notification, after submitting a survey, that she didn’t qualify for payment. So not only do you get paid pittance, you might not even qualify to get paid at all. This makes me wonder what the stipulations are for qualification.

Emails Or Advertisements?

The emails you’ll be asked to read are essentially advertisements for products and promotions. In the event that you sign up for one of these promotions, InboxDollars makes money. In essence, you have to spend money before you earn it.

To get paid for completing tasks, you’ll need to reach the minimum payout threshold of $30.00. To access payments, (that’s assuming you’ve met the threshold) visit the Request Payment Page. A $3.00 processing fee is charged in order to release payment, which is waved if you cash out at $40.00 instead of $30.00.

InboxDollars offers a referral program where you can make $1.00 for each person you refer. Once a referral creates an account, you get paid. Once you’ve made 5 referrals, you can earn 30% off each new referral for the duration of that person’s membership.

It can take up to two weeks to get paid once you’ve made a request. Gold members, which you automatically become once you’ve received your first payment, can get paid in just a few days.

Can You Really Earn Money?

Can you make money with InboxDollars? Well, yes and no. You can earn money, just not very much. The effort/reward ratio doesn’t make sense to me. The theory is good, but unfortunately, it doesn’t play out in practice.

In the example above, if you opt to read emails (aka advertisements) as your given task, you’ll get paid to read promotions from various brands. If a particular promotion interests you, you can receive an InboxDollars member’s discount, which would give you the first month for free. This is one source of revenue for the company.

  1. I have spent so much time trying to find a legitimate survey site and I’m always disappointed. I don’t recommend any survey sites any more especially if you are not from the UK or Canada. You may be in for a real time-waster.

You won’t get access to the real paying surveys and you will be getting a very limited number of surveys to complete. These few will be earning you little cash. Sometimes its really really hard to make a single dollar in a week.

    • Hi Donny,

I’m with you, I don’t recommend trying to make money with surveys. You’ll be sorely disappointed if you go down that road. Thanks for comment:)

  2. Hello, there!  I was pleasantly surprised by this post.  In the beginning, I thought you were going to promote InboxDollars.  Having tried it myself, I was all prepared to blast a negative review in your comment section!  However, upon further reading, I noticed that we are on the exact same page.

Also worthy to note – I, too, have accidentally stumbled upon Wealthy Affiliate, and it’s because of all my wasted time on survey sites!  WA has helped me to better understand the many opportunities I now have to be an online presence!  I have learned so much since joining a few months ago.

I’m well on my way to reaching my dreams I never knew I could dream.  Thank you for this post – surely anyone who reads should at least try and sign up for free!  They’ll quickly see the value.  Blessings!

    • I would definitely have a difficult time promoting InboxDollars. So much hype with so little benefit. I’m so glad you accidentally stumbled upon WA like I did. What a tremendous platform with such incredible value. WA has taught me the skills I was looking for to get started online.

Because it’s so low-risk to get started, or rather no-risk, everyone should create a free account to see what the buzz is all about. Like us, they’ll seal the deal in a week. That’s how awesome Wealthy Affiliate is. Thank you so much for your comment and for taking the time to read my review.

  3. Hello Holly, I must say that this article is very helpful and informative. I personally had an experience with InboxDollars last year, and I can say that it is definitely possible to make money, but it’s not something people can make a living at. The earning potential is way too low. It’s not worth wasting time on this.

    • Well said. I totally agree with you. Companies like this reel people in with their low entry point and false promises. So unfortunate. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment:)

  4. Hi Holly. I have joined several different survey companies over the year and the only thing I have ever received from them was the headache of having to constantly empty my junk email box. In the end, all they are really after is a legit way to pass peoples’ email addresses and phone numbers on to the various companies that pay them for this list.

It is possible to make around $5 an hour if you are persistent and learn just how to take the shortcuts. But I would only ever recommend it if you desperately need some extra cash to pay for some other online membership you might have, and even then I would only use it until the other starts making an income.

I agree with you that Inbox dollars is a hard one to make any money with. I’ve tried it an gave up after just two weeks. Thank you for your honest review. Jim

    • Hi Jim,

Thanks for you comment. That makes sense that they want peoples’ emails and phone numbers. Such a sleazy way to do it.

What a lot of trouble for just five bucks an hour. Why mess around with companies like this? Such a waste of time that could be spend much better elsewhere:)

  5. I am always skeptical about the online survey sites as they mostly are just hype, and it is not easy to earn much money through them. Nonetheless, this one was not a platform I had heard of, so I decided to have a look at your review of the Inboxdollars product to see if perhaps this one was better.

After reading through everything, I must say that this is yet another one that I would put little time or effort into, and I would rather spend the effort building an affiliate business that you write about near the end of your review. That just seems to be a better option. It’s much more likely you’ll find success with affiliate marketing.

    • Hi Dave,

I’m skeptical as well of companies that pay for completed tasks. They play on people’s vulnerabilities in hopes that they’ll make consistent money working online. Building an affiliate marketing business is a much better option, with the potential to make an awesome living. Thanks for your comment:)

  6. Hi Holly! A company that has been 19 years in business can’t be a scam. As you have explained, they pay, but the thing is they pay very little.

I first of all wanted to find a platform that wasn’t a scam. But I also wanted to do something online that would help me to make a living, and that definetly is not Inboxdollars. Thanks for recommending this other site too.

    • Hi Henry,

InboxDollars isn’t a scam because it is possible to make money, just very little. In my opinion, although it’s not officially considered a scam, their false promises are misleading and dishonest. To me, this is the epitome of scammy behavior. It’s unfortunate that so many people fall for it. The ones that do are likely in a vulnerable position financially, which makes them somewhat desperate, and they fall prey.

      Thanks so much for reading:)

  7. Hi, it is amazing to know that there are so many of these programs out there that promise to pay for taking surveys and other tasks. I call them scams. In my experience, they let you complete surveys, then inform you that you are not eligible after you’ve submitted it. Other companies will let you sign up, yet there will be no surveys for you to take.

I am yet to find someone who truly earns their livelihood from such a program. If you sign up all you do is help the company make money from your sweat, with no reward to speak of. I commend you for exposing such a waste of people’s time and money.,

I wonder how one can avoid such scams, and how can one identify legit programs that can help you make money online.

    Thank you!

    • Hello and thank for reading,

You’re right, it’s pretty amazing that there are is no shortage of these types of programs. What a shame for someone to complete a 30-minute survey, which is taxing in itself, just to be notified that they aren’t eligible for payment.

I don’t know of one person who’s been able to make money following this route. Sure, the company will benefit, just not its members. The best way to protect yourself is to realize that if it something seems too good to be true, it likely is.

Thanks for taking the time to comment:)
