MegaTypers Quick Facts

Company: MegaTypers

Website: megatypers.com

Cost to join: Free

Program intent: Earn typer credits by solving captchas

What Is A Captcha?

First things first, what is a captcha? CAPTCHA stands for Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. Essentially, a captcha is a type of test to determine if you’re human, as opposed to being a robot. Apparently, you are indeed human if you can correctly evaluate and type a sequence of numbers and letters into a given box. Robots can’t do that…

These numbers and letters are distorted when they’re displayed on the screen. I don’t get the reason behind the distortion. I know many people are aggravated by captchas, especially those with disabilities. From my own personal experience, captcha numbers and letters typically have to be typed in more than once to “pass” the test. In fact, most people take up to 10 seconds or more to correctly solve these small puzzles.

Facts About MegaTypers

From their website: “MetaTypers.com is a workforce management company that provides data entry services to private and governmental institutions.” Services include transcription from Voice to Text, Image-to-Text recognition, along with providing assistance to the visually impaired, helping them to navigate the visual challenges on the internet.

Your job title, if you decide to work for this company, would be “Typer,” but I think it should be more aptly named – “Captcha Solver.” Essentially, MegaTypers is a data entry job where you do the same mindless thing day in and day out. No skills are required, nor is training provided or necessary. The reason captcha solvers are in demand is because many people either dislike, or have trouble, completing captchas on their own.

Requirements for the job include: access to a computer, an internet connection, and the ability to type a minimum of 10 words per minute. The opportunity is looking good so far, right? Work when you want and for how long you want – flexibility is always a big perk. Typers earn Typer Credits, which can be swapped out for dollar currency. The faster you type, the more credits you earn.

MegaTypers Is Good For…

At first glance, Mega Typers seems like the perfect fit for students, stay-at-home moms, people who are in between jobs, or people who want to supplement their existing income. The amount of money you earn is dependent on the amount of work you complete. Sounds reasonable. Typers can earn anywhere from $100 to $250 Typer Credits per month.

Rates begin at $0.45 credits and can go as high as $1.5 credits for each 1,000 puzzle solved. Credits can be exchanged for a 1:1 ratio dollar currency using debit cards, PayPal, Bank checks, Western Union, Bitcoin, WebMoney or Perfect Money. As a precautionary measure, I would stick with PayPal for security reasons.

The time of day you work figures in to how much you can make. The most opportune time being around 5 in the afternoon. Keep in mind, in order to get paid you need to solve 1,000 captchas. Why so many?

Notice how they say “We do not promote the use of any third party software.” They’re obviously covering their bases in case anyone tries to outsmart the system.

MegaTypers Review / Final Verdict

Is their tagline “Easy Job, Easy Money” true?

MegaTypers is a legitimate company, but they’re paying slave wages for the work required. Yes, it’s possible to make a couple hundred extra dollars a month, but at what expense? The work is tedious and boring, which wouldn’t be so bad if you were handsomely compensated, but as it stands, your time and effort could be put to much better use elsewhere.

While it’s true the job is easy, the dollar amount isn’t big enough to warrant the time you would spend solving captchas. And my guess is, the work would get old pretty fast. If I’m going to spend time working online, I would certainly rather learn a profitable skill that will serve me down the road.

Pros

  • No prior training or skills needed
  • No equipment or software required
  • Free to get started
  • Easy work
  • Flexible hours
  • Anyone is accepted

Cons

  • Boring work
  • Poor compensation for work completed
  • Work is graded
  • Fees can potentially be deducted

  • There’s no future in captcha-solving
Boring work You don’t get paid until you solve 1,000 captchas
Poor compensation for work completed There’s no future in captcha-solving
Work is graded Fees can potentially be deducted

So, basically you’re stuck at your computer doing mind-numbing work to earn a few dollars. It doesn’t make sense, especially since there’s no payout until you have solved hundreds of boring captchas. And here’s the real kicker, YOU ARE GRADED based on your performance, as if solving captchas were a skill.

If you don’t make the grade, credits will be deducted from your earnings. If you’re familiar with captchas, you know that some are fairly hard to solve, so it stands to reason that you’re going to miss a few. The repercussions of this means you’ll need to spend more time on each captcha, while not earning more money in proportion to time spent.

It would be one thing if you were making $200.00 a day, but 200 bucks a month, c’mon, really?!

  1. This looks like a lot of work for very poor pay. I guess, one would be better off to get a job in the factory (or wherever).

Even if we stick to the internet, there are far less tedious jobs out there. Yes, working on a blog is hard work and it may take quite some time to be lucrative (or may only take a year or two), but at least it has potential. And you’re working on something that you love and it’s just yours, that’s got to be worth something too.

    • You’re right, the pay is not good at all. A person would be better off, in terms of earning potential, to work at a job doing manual labor. We’re lucky to have the convenience of the internet right at our fingertips, and the opportunities it affords us. Yes, blogging takes a high degree of motivation and consistency, but the earning potential is incredible, plus you learn so much in the process. And the fact that a blog is like your very own piece of real estate, makes it that much better. Thanks for reading:)

  2. I am always skeptical about these online websites proposing that you can make money online, though this one actually seems legit. It won’t pay you a lot, but if you have lots of free time on your hands it sounds like you can make a little bit. I mean $100-250 a month would be a nice addition to my finances. Although I have heard about Wealthy Affiliate too, I may look into that as well. Thank you for the review!

    • Hi Travis,

All of us need to be skeptical, and protect ourselves, with so many scams on the internet today. Joining Wealthy Affiliate would be a much better bet for you in terms of cost, the skills you’ll learn, and the potential to make money. You get so much more than what you pay for. Please do check them out. Their Black Friday sale is coming up next week where you can save big time on a premium membership. Thanks for reading and commenting:)

  3. This is the second company I’ve heard about recently that offers payment in return for solving captchas. As you mentioned in your opinion section, it doesn’t feel like the amount of time you’d have to put in would warrant the relatively small payout.

As someone who has tried transcription jobs with similarly low payouts in the past, I know this definitely isn’t for me. My other concern would be what the company is doing with all of these ‘solved captchas’. The fact that they provide their services to ‘private and governmental institutions’ is a little vague, don’t you think?

    • H Tucker,

MegaTypers is just one of many “Captcha solving” companies that are out there. These companies aren’t worth your time and effort. I hadn’t thought about what they’re doing with the solved captchas. That’s something worth thinking about. Thanks for bringing it up and for reading my review.

  4. Hello,

Very interesting review. Sounds like it’s possible to make money with this company, but not enough to make it worth my time, and it would be very boring work.

I believe that the best way to work from home is to join Wealthy Affiliate. I joined five months ago, and have been able to may my monthly subscription. I’ve been working on my blog, and am expecting it to make money in a few months.

    Keep up your great articles!

    • Thank you. Yeah, MegaTypers isn’t worth your time. I’m so happy you’re a member of Wealthy Affiliate. It’s the best platform out there if you want to make money on the internet. I learned so much from the certification course. I wish you much success with your blog. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment:)

  5. I have tried some data entry jobs online similar to MegaTypers; For me, this job looks like a very big stressor for not much money. How will they pay $0.45 credits to $1.5 credits for every 1000 puzzle. 1000 is very huge and $1.5 is very low for it in my opinion. Just like you have said, I will have to invest my energy somewhere else. Thanks.

    • You called it exactly right. It doesn’t make sense to sign up for a boring job, where you won’t learn any profitable skills that will serve you well in the future, and not make any money in the process. The whole thing doesn’t make sense. There are much better options out there, Wealthy Affiliate being the best in my opinion. Please take advantage of their Black Friday sale coming up next week. Thanks for taking the time to comment:)

  6. Hi, thank you very much for taking your time to share this review of MegaTypers. Good to know that MegaTypers is legitimate and I can make money by joining. Too bad the earnings are very small and not worth it. Typing 1,000 CAPTCHAs for less than 2 dollars is a waste of time. I will look somewhere else.

    • Thanks for reading my review. Yes, MegaTypers isn’t technically a scam, since it’s possible to make money. You won’t, however make very much. It’s certainly not worth your time and money.
